Learn about SMART

For meeting Participants

SMART stands for 'Self Management And Recovery Training' - the Training bit isn't only for Facilitators.  SMART works by helping you learn new techniques of self management, such as strategies to cope with difficult situations and emotions.

The main way participants learn is through attending meetings - there is no necessity or expectation that you will do any 'training' in SMART Recovery unless you want to become a facilitator.  That said, some people do want to spend time learning more of the background to the tools and even some of the theory about why and how they work.  An option for you to consider is working through some of our training to help you get more out of attending meetings.

You should have been automatically enrolled into SMART For Life - a short on-line course which introduces SMART Recovery.  To the right hand side of this page, under 'My courses' it will hopefully show 'SMART For Life' - just click on that and work your way through the videos and reading material. It will take about an hour and there are no tests or examinations!

For meeting Facilitators and Champions

The Facilitator and Champion Training article describes the approach to training in more detail.  The on-line training consists of Getting SMART and SMART Facilitator.
