SMART Recovery gives ME back control of my life. I've learned there's only one thing that makes me use, and that’s my perception of the world. I now help other people learn how to take control back of their lives - maybe one of those will help another group of people, and through that we can start to change people's attitudes to recovery.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that SMART Recovery has saved my marriage, my liberty, and probably my life.

I will be 5 years sober 31st October 2012,I am not going to say the 5 years have been easy cause it aint........I have had great times, I have had sad times ,I have had times that have been just OK.

Main thing is I have always fell back on what I learned in my early days at SMART and my life has changed so much in the last 5 years...I have became a husband,I have learned to play the bagpipes (still improving), I have volunteered at SMART both in the UK and the USA, I have passed the SMART training and became a certificated (LOL) facilitator.

I have gone from alcohol ruling my life to alcohol not being a problem in my life, I have gone from being suicidal to being happy in my life. Its not always been so clean cut..... people say recovery is a roller coaster ..it is .......you get the build up to the high then the drop to the bottom ....in time you don't have to travel as far to get the high and the drop doesn't go all the way to the bottom you also get more highs than lows.

SMART recovery has learned me that I control my life ...I make the choices in my life.........some things I cant control but how I feel and think about these things I can control.

I'll keep it brief. Smart Recovery quite simply saved my life. No if's or buts here guys. Without the things Smart taught me, i wouldnt have been able to pursue the things in life that i have. Trust me, its scientific based but it just kinda works. No sponsor, no buddy, no labels, every kind of addiction or negative behaviour is welcomed, just simple tools and techniques to use in our daily lives. We all do em anyway, Smart fine tunes our brains to be more alert to them. It puts the power back into our lives. We make choices, decisions and we are empowered to believe in them. If you dont believe me, then get yourself to a meeting. Stick at it until you feel yourself thinking 'smart'.
Smart Recovery is as addictive as our Drugs of Choice were - the difference is that i dont want to stop using Smart.

I have been a longtime participant of SMART Recovery, both online and in face to face meetings and I'd like to say that I'm very happy to now see the UK take the reins of it's own site. And what a pleasant, modern and easy-to-use site it is, too!
